Kumihimo (pronounced "koo-me-he-mo") is a traditional form of braiding practiced in Japan. Braids are tougher than plain cord and have many uses. I make braids to use for pendant cords and bracelets. Most of my braids are 8-strand, but sometimes I use 12 or 16 strands. I also tend to use variegated-color thread rather than solid colors, because I like the random shadings and patterns I get that way.
